James R. Barton, MD, FACS

Dr. Barton was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and raised in West Virginia. He received his undergraduate and post-graduate education at West Virginia University. A tour in the U.S. Navy interrupted his medical training. Upon completion of his residency in Otolaryngology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, he joined a four-man group of otolaryngologists in a Milwaukee practice based at St. Luke’s Medical Canter. He is in his twenty-sixth year of practice. During this time he has maintained an Associate Clinical Professorship from the Medical College of Wisconsin and has been involved with the teaching program for a number of years. He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology -Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Barton is a member in good standing with many professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His peers recognized his interest in the business side of medicine by electing him to represent them as Chief of Staff of St. Luke’s Medical Center. He subsequently served as Chairman of the Milwaukee Metro Physician’s Cabinet that represented physician leadership at Aurora Health Care. Currently he is a board member of Aurora Health Care, which is one of the largest health care organizations in Wisconsin.
He enjoys all aspects of a general otolaryngology practice but has special interest in nasal and sinus disorders. Dr. Barton has had additional training in cosmetic rhinoplasty since his residency and can combine functional, as well as cosmetic disorders. Dr. Barton enjoys golfing in his spare time and finds drawing his most relaxing non-business activity. In 1996, 2000 and 2004 Milwaukee Magazine recognized Dr. Barton as a “Top Doc” in Otolaryngology.
